Qualifications and Requirements

  • Master’s degree or PhD in Marketing, Accounting, Management, or a related field.
  • Demonstrated teaching experience in one or more of the listed courses.
  • Excellent command of the English language.
  • Strong communication and presentation skills.
  • Commitment to high academic standards and student success.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Deliver engaging and effective lectures.
  • Design and update course syllabi and materials.
  • Provide academic support and guidance to students.
  • Participate in departmental meetings and curriculum development.
  • Uphold the university’s values of academic excellence.

Position Overview

The Faculty of Education strives to empower students to become confident, innovative, and globally minded English teachers. The Department of English Education at SMU seeks a dedicated Lecturer to teach undergraduate courses in English grammar, academic writing, literature, storytelling, and soft skills for educators.

Key Responsibilities

Teaching & Course Delivery

  • Teach courses such as Foundation of English Grammar, Basic Writing, Introduction to Literature, Storytelling, and Soft Skills for Educators.
  • Design and deliver engaging lectures, workshops, and classroom activities.
  • Provide clear materials, assessments, and feedback aligned with learning outcomes.
  • Develop course syllabi, lesson plans, and exams according to departmental standards.

Student Support & Mentorship

  • Offer academic guidance, writing support, and constructive feedback.
  • Mentor students to develop communication and critical thinking skills.
  • Create an inclusive, supportive classroom for diverse learners.

Professional Development & Service

  • Participate in departmental meetings and academic committees.
  • Contribute to curriculum enhancement in English language and teacher education.

Required Qualifications

  • Master’s degree or Ph.D. in English Language, Literature, TESOL/TEFL, Education, or related field.
  • Experience teaching grammar, writing, or literature at the undergraduate level.
  • Familiarity with ESL pedagogy and academic writing instruction.
  • Excellent spoken and written English communication skills.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Strong understanding of English grammar and sentence structure.
  • Experience with multilingual learners and writing support.
  • Research or expertise in discourse analysis, storytelling, or teacher training.
  • Experience with digital tools, LMS, and instructional technology.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and ability to teach teamwork, communication, and ethics.
